Beeswax candle making workshops at the Sebeșu de Jos homestead
This year's edition of the " Night of Museums" event, held at the Astra Museum under the slogan "Closer to the people on a May night" had a various program and took place in different locations.
Visitors could take part in various interactive craft workshops organized in traditional households, demonstrations of restoration, woodworking, pottery, weaving, embroidery, preserving textile pieces or preparing traditional recipes and more.
In the shepherding sector, there were open-air cinema screenings organized by ASTRA Film as part of the exhibition "Travelers in the Mountain World", as well as gastronomic workshops with dishes specific to the pastoral life.
At the Sebeșu de Jos homestead - reconstructed in the ASTRA Museum in 1966, were organized beeswax candle making workshops, attended by 100 people, mainly children.
The interactive workshops that took place, brought the visiting public closer to the life of the beeswax candle makers through practical examples that help to understand the tools used and the process of producing beeswax candles.
Through their inventory, the workshops present, two different ways of making candles, introducing the public including olfactory into the world of beeswax candle makers, because the clean, warm beeswax has a specific pleasant smell that you will not easily forget. Melting the wax makes it easy to mold it into various shapes that are appealing to the young but also to the mature public.
