Stână Fest, More Workshops at the Project’s Site

Stână Fest event was organized within the Animă Astra! project between 6 - 7 July 2022. The event took place in the Open Air Museum, in four shepherds’ households from the area of Mărginimea Sibiului. There were eight interactive workshops that took place while the visitors could see how wooden tools specific to traditional cuisine were crafted. One of these locations was the sheepfold from Rășinari, part of the ASTRA VR circuit, the workshops organized having the same themes as the ones of the project that ended this year. The activities were attended by three shepherds from Mărginimea Sibiului, who milked the sheep and then curdled the milk in a bucket, followed by demonstrations on how to prepare curd and telemea cheese and to boil buttermilk in traditional containers. At the end of the demonstrations, those present were invited to taste the product resulted after boiling the buttermilk – jintița, prepared by the shepherds.

„Sheep provide wool, which, processed by women, used to be the main source of clothing for the shepherd's family. Due to its composition, wool has the ability to regulate body temperature, doesn't create static electricity, keeps cool in summer and warm in winter. The value of wool in the past was equal to the value of gold. Women reconditioned each damaged fabric, extending its life for another good period of time. The most mentioned animal in the Bible, the sheep, bearer of spiritual reality, follows its protector and savior's voice. The daily life and activity of the shepherd is dependent on the existence of the sheep herd.” declared Raluca Iliuț,  ASTRA Museum curator.
